Overview

What is Wave Billing?

Wave Billing is an ISP billing and WiFi hotspot management system for Kenyan internet providers and hotspot operators that run MikroTik routers. It manages hotspot and PPPoE subscribers through FreeRADIUS, sells access through a captive portal with vouchers and M-Pesa payments, and cuts off expired accounts automatically. It is in early access from Quickwave Technologies.

  • Stop configuring every MikroTik by hand: one pasted command registers the router, then Wave Billing sets up RADIUS, IP pools, the PPPoE server, the hotspot server and the captive portal redirect.
  • Stop chasing payments: customers pay by M-Pesa, and their package is activated or renewed as soon as the payment is confirmed.
  • Expired users no longer stay online: RADIUS ends each session at expiry, and a check every 30 seconds disables expired PPPoE accounts on the router and sends the customer a notice.
  • Sell hotspot access without staff on site, through printed vouchers or the Buy WiFi option on the captive portal.
  • Keep heavy users in check with a fair usage limit in GB and a throttled speed on each package.

Who Wave Billing is for

  • WiFi hotspot and WiFi zone operators in Kenya selling time-based access
  • Small ISPs and WISPs running MikroTik RouterOS routers
  • PPPoE home and business internet providers billing by package
  • ISPs that sell through resellers or agents
  • ISP owners who want payments, expenses and profit in one place

Features

Everything Wave Billing does

Hotspot and PPPoE in one · M-Pesa captive portal and vouchers · One-command MikroTik router setup

  • One-command MikroTik setup

Paste one generated command into the MikroTik terminal to register it. Map ports to PPPoE, hotspot or both, and Wave Billing configures RADIUS, IP pools, the PPPoE and hotspot servers and the portal redirect.

  • FreeRADIUS speed and expiry control

FreeRADIUS checks each login for account status, expiry, password and MAC binding. It then applies the package speed limit, with burst if set, and a session timeout that ends at expiry.

  • Captive portal with M-Pesa

Hotspot users enter a voucher or tap Buy WiFi, pick a plan priced in KES and approve an M-Pesa prompt. Once the payment is confirmed they get a login code and are connected.

  • Printable voucher batches

Generate vouchers in bulk for a chosen package, each with a 6-character code. Print them as voucher card sheets or export to CSV. Each voucher records when it was used and by which device.

  • Packages with FUP and burst

Set a KES price, duration in days and upload and download speeds in Mbps. Add a fair usage limit in GB with a throttled speed, or burst settings, and track usage on the FUP Monitor.

  • Automatic suspension and renewal

Every 30 seconds, expired accounts are marked, their PPPoE secret is disabled and the session is dropped. When the customer pays, the account reconnects and any days left roll over.

  • SMS and WhatsApp notifications

Payment receipts and expiry notices go out automatically by SMS through Africa’s Talking, JulySMS or BlessedText, or by WhatsApp. Each ISP picks its own SMS provider, and every message is logged as sent or failed.

  • Resellers and customer portal

Resellers get their own console to register and manage subscribers, up to a limit you set. Subscribers get a portal that shows days left and data used, where they can renew online.

  • Billing, expenses and reports

See renewals due in the next 7 days, overdue accounts, invoices and reseller payouts, log expenses, and report collections against expenses for net profit. Most tables export to CSV.

How it works

How Wave Billing works

  1. Connect your MikroTik

Add the router by name and paste the generated command into its terminal. Wave Billing reads its model, RouterOS version and interfaces.

  2. Map ports and create packages

Set each port to PPPoE, hotspot or both, then create packages with a KES price, duration, speeds and an optional fair usage limit.

  3. Add subscribers and vouchers

Register PPPoE subscribers, or generate and print voucher batches for hotspot sales. Resellers can add subscribers from their own console.

  4. Get paid and stay in control

Customers pay by M-Pesa or voucher, RADIUS applies their speed and time, and expired accounts are cut off automatically.

FAQ

Wave Billing questions, answered

What is Wave Billing?

Wave Billing is an ISP billing and WiFi hotspot management system for Kenyan internet providers and hotspot operators on MikroTik routers, built by Quickwave Technologies. It handles hotspot and PPPoE subscribers, vouchers, M-Pesa payments and automatic expiry, and is in early access.

How much does Wave Billing cost?

No price is published yet. Wave Billing is in early access: message us on WhatsApp on 0798 871 229 for a quote.

Does Wave Billing work with MikroTik routers?

Yes. It is built for MikroTik RouterOS and talks to each router through the RouterOS API. You register a router by pasting one generated command into its terminal.

Can I sell hotspot vouchers and monthly PPPoE internet from one account?

Yes. Packages are created for hotspot or PPPoE, and each router port can serve PPPoE, hotspot or both. Hotspot users buy with printed vouchers or M-Pesa on the captive portal, and PPPoE subscribers renew online from their customer portal.

Can customers pay for WiFi with M-Pesa?

Yes. Hotspot users pick a plan on the captive portal and approve an M-Pesa prompt on their phone; the portal checks the payment every 3 seconds, then logs them in. PPPoE subscribers renew online from their customer portal.

Does Wave Billing suspend unpaid accounts automatically?

Yes. Every 30 seconds a background check marks expired accounts, disables the PPPoE secret on the router, disconnects the session and sends an SMS or WhatsApp notice. When the customer pays, the account reconnects and any remaining days roll over.

Do I need a separate RADIUS server?

No. FreeRADIUS is included in the Wave Billing stack, and the router setup adds the RADIUS client to your MikroTik for you. RADIUS then applies each user’s speed limit and session time.

Can I run resellers or agents on Wave Billing?

Yes. Each reseller gets their own console to register and manage subscribers, up to a limit you set (100 by default).
