UI/UX design

Clear, accessible interfaces for web and mobile products, designed by the team that builds them.

  • Product and UX design
  • Design systems and tokens
  • Prototypes tested with users

Overview

What is UI/UX design?

UI/UX design is the work of deciding how a product looks and how people move through it, from the first screen to a finished task. Quickwave designs web and mobile interfaces, design systems and clickable prototypes for businesses and startups in Kenya, and our own engineers build what we design. The Wave design system behind Wave POS, ZetuPay and Wave Call Center is our work.

Who this is for

  • Startups designing a first web or mobile product
  • SaaS teams whose product has grown hard to use
  • Businesses moving staff from paper or spreadsheets to an app
  • Companies that need one design system across several apps
  • Developers who want designs they can build without guesswork

What you get

What we deliver

  • Product and interface design

Screens for web and mobile designed around the tasks your users repeat every day, from checkout to month-end reports, with every state covered: empty, loading, error and offline.

  • UX research, kept light

Short interviews with the people who will use the product, a walk through how the work is done today, and a review of your current screens. Enough to find the real problems quickly.

  • Design systems

One set of colour, type, spacing and component rules, coded as Tailwind CSS tokens. Wave POS, ZetuPay and Wave Call Center share one: Inter on a lighter weight scale, two corner radii and no shadows.

  • Clickable prototypes

Prototypes of the key flows that you and your users can click through on a phone or laptop, so you can change direction before any production code is written.

  • Accessibility

Readable contrast, visible keyboard focus, labelled form fields and layouts that work from small phones to desktops. Wave POS, for example, shows a clear focus outline, has keyboard shortcuts at the till and turns its tables into cards below 768 px.

  • Handoff as working code

Designs arrive as reusable React or Vue components styled with Tailwind CSS, not just pictures, because the same team builds them. Nothing gets lost between design and code.

Process

How we work

  1. Understand

We talk to you and a few of your users, look at how the work is done today and agree which tasks matter most.

  2. Sketch and prototype

We map the flows, sketch the key screens and turn them into a clickable prototype you can try on your own phone.

  3. Test and refine

We watch real users try the prototype, fix what trips them up, and settle the visual design and design system.

  4. Build or hand over

Our engineers build the screens as reusable components, or we hand the design system and prototype to your developers.

Technology we use

  • React 19

FAQ

UI/UX design: common questions

How much does UI/UX design cost, and how long does it take?

It depends on how many flows and screens are involved. After a short discovery call we send a written, itemised quote with a timeline, and design can be quoted on its own or together with the build.

Can you design a product without building it?

Yes. We can hand the prototype, design system and component notes to your own developers. We can also build it, so the designs reach production unchanged.

What is a design system, and do I need one?

A design system is a shared set of colours, type, spacing and components that every screen is built from. It pays off once you have more than one product or a growing number of screens. Wave POS, ZetuPay and Wave Call Center share one, so they use the same typeface, weight scale, corner radii and flat, shadow-free surfaces.

Do you do user research?

Yes, kept light and practical. We interview a few of the people who will use the product, watch how they work today, and test the prototype with them before anything is built.

Do you design for mobile phones and patchy internet?

Yes. We design mobile-first and plan loading, error and offline states from the start. Wave POS, for example, keeps selling when the internet drops and shows its tables as cards on small screens.

Do you design for accessibility?

Yes. We check colour contrast, keyboard use, visible focus and form labels as we design. In React, we build on accessible component primitives such as Radix UI, which Wave Call Center and ZetuPay use.
