Overview
What is custom software development?
Custom software development is the design and build of software around the way a particular business works, instead of bending the business to fit an off-the-shelf package. Quickwave builds business systems, ERP-style modules, customer and staff portals, multi-tenant SaaS platforms and APIs for companies in Kenya, connected to M-Pesa, SMS and the systems they already run. Our own products, Wave POS, Wave Call Center and Wave Billing, are built the same way.
Who this is for
- Businesses running key work on spreadsheets, paper or WhatsApp groups
- Retailers, wholesalers and distributors with several branches
- Companies whose off-the-shelf software no longer fits how they work
- Startups building a SaaS product for Kenyan customers
- Teams that need M-Pesa, SMS and their other systems connected
What you get
What we deliver
Business systems and ERP-style modules
Stock, purchasing, sales, customer and supplier accounts, expenses and profit and loss, with stock and accounts kept as ledgers that trace every movement to a document. Sensitive changes wait for approval, as in Wave POS.
Portals for customers, staff and partners
Self-service portals where customers see their package, usage and invoices and renew online, plus consoles for resellers or agents, each limited by role. Wave Billing has both.
Multi-tenant SaaS platforms
Each customer gets an isolated workspace with its own users, roles, settings and plan limits, plus a sub-domain and M-Pesa subscription billing where needed. Wave POS, Wave Call Center and Wave Billing are multi-tenant.
API design and webhooks
REST APIs with read and write keys, rate limits, idempotency keys and an OpenAPI 3.1 document, plus webhooks signed with HMAC-SHA256 and retried on failure, as in Wave Call Center.
Integrations with your other systems
M-Pesa through Safaricom Daraja or ZetuPay, voice and SMS through Africa’s Talking, MikroTik routers and FreeRADIUS, thermal printers and barcode scanners, and Excel or CSV imports and exports.
Offline-first and real-time apps
Apps that keep working when the internet drops and sync in order when it returns, like the Wave POS till, and live dashboards that update without reloading the page.
Process
How we work
Discover and scope
We look at how the work is done today: forms, spreadsheets, approvals and reports. You then get a written, itemised quote with milestones.
Design the system
We map the data, user roles and permissions, integrations and API contracts, and you approve the key screens before any build starts.
Build in milestones
You see working software on a preview link at each milestone. Automated tests cover the rules that matter most, such as payments, stock and permissions.
Launch and support
We import your existing data from Excel or CSV, deploy through GitHub Actions, and stay on for fixes and new modules.

Hotspot and PPPoE billing for MikroTik ISPs, with M-Pesa payments.
FAQ
Custom software: common questions
How much does custom software development cost in Kenya?
It depends on the modules, user roles and integrations you need. We send a written, itemised quote after a short discovery call, so you see the cost of each part before work starts. Building in milestones also lets you start with the module that matters most.
How long does it take to build a custom system?
It depends on scope. Your quote sets out a timeline with milestones, and you see working software on a preview link at each one instead of waiting for a single release at the end.
Should we buy off-the-shelf software or build our own?
Buy when a product already fits how you work, and build when it does not. Custom software pays off when your process, pricing rules or integrations are what set you apart. If one of our own products, such as Wave POS for retail, already fits, we will tell you.
Can the system connect to M-Pesa, SMS and our other tools?
Yes. We integrate M-Pesa through Safaricom Daraja or ZetuPay, voice and SMS through Africa’s Talking, and other systems through their APIs and webhooks. Where a system has no API, data can move through Excel or CSV imports and exports.
Can you build a multi-tenant SaaS product?
Yes. Wave POS, Wave Call Center and Wave Billing are all multi-tenant: each customer’s data is kept apart, with its own users, roles and settings. Wave POS also gives every business its own sub-domain and bills its plans by M-Pesa.
Will the system keep working when the internet goes down?
Yes, where it matters. We build offline-first apps that save work on the device and sync it in order when the connection returns, the way the Wave POS till keeps selling during an outage.
